GROWING UP TOO FAST

It was slowly killing her to stay on the house with Michael every day. She hated school but at least it offered her a reprieve from her daddy, her pimp and the father of her unborn child. Even though the relief was only temporary, something was better than nothing. She didn’t realize until it was gone just how much she needed it. How much she craved it. It was the only thing that had kept her from going insane.

She hadn’t been back to school since it was confirmed she was pregnant. The school felt it was best for her to attend a school for pregnant teens because it was an insurance risk to have her continue at a school with no special accommodations. They also felt she would be a bad influence on the other girls in her class.

She still remembered sitting down with Mrs. Paul who looked at her with sympathy in her eyes. “Attending an alternative school is the best for everyone involved, Chastity. Not only will they have the resources you need there but you’ll be around other young ladies in the same situation. We can’t take the risk of allowing other girls to see this and think it’s okay or acceptable.”

She couldn’t believe Mrs. Paul had the nerve to come out of her mouth and say other girls would think pregnancy at her age was acceptable. Acceptable? No one in their right mind would want to be in this position. She had no idea what Chastity was going through and as far as she was concerned Mrs. Paul didn’t care.

Ms. White had summoned Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Foster to her office after she administered the pregnancy test. As they stood in the office trying to decide what was best for her and whether they would need to talk to Michael, she decided she was done with school. Life for her ended the day she was born. Going back to school would only prolong her agony. She was doomed to live the life that Michael had planned for her. There was no more use in fighting it. She didn’t need anything other than her pen, paper and her vivid imagination. As long as she had that she would be alright.

It had been three months since that day. She was now six months along and Michael was meaner than he was before. He hated the fact that she was pregnant. Never mind that he was the reason behind his own hatred. Chastity was a mirror for him. All he saw that was evil and cruel about him was reflected in her face. He saw all the hurt and pain he had experienced and inflicted on her but he was powerless to stop himself.

“They say sunsets and rainbows are beautiful, they say flowers in spring and bees in summer, they say little girls in ribbons and little boys in shorts, they say these things are beautiful these things are pure. They say girls like me and places like this don’t exist.
